What are rhetorical questions?

Modified on Sun, 20 Aug, 2023 at 7:35 AM

Rhetorical questions are a specialty of sign language grammar.

Question signs like

- WHY?

- WHERE?

- WHO?

- HOW?

- WHEN?

can become rhetorical questions to mark an explanation.

Check out the example of the English sentence.

When signing the word "because" is exchanged with the question sign WHY?

EnglishSigning
"I learn to sign, because I want to sign well".

ME LEARN SIGN WHY? ME WANT SIGN GOOD

When signing rhetorical questions, no responses or answers are expected. They are used to add more pieces of information to the topic.

Try to use rhetorical questions wherever it is suitable. Implementing them into your signing can make your stories more interesting and engaging!
